Spring 2023 Recap: My First Gallery Experience

Spring 2023 Recap: My First Gallery Experience

This is my first blog post! I never read people's emails but find myself reading any and all information I can find online for free without signing up for anything. I'm determined to share more of my process with admirers of my art here. But first I have to catch you up on everything that has happened since the Spring of 2023, namely: my FIRST EVER GALLERY EXPERIENCE!!!!

My first big painting of 2023 was Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa. I made this piece to go with two other paintings from the same continent: Timbuktu, Mali and Giza Necropolis, Egypt, for Anywhere But Here, an exhibition at the Sherwood Center for the Arts in Oregon. It was an incredible honor to be part of this show and I loved that my art really suited the theme. They even had an interactive map in the gallery for people to mark places they would like to visit with pushpins—needless to say I was a big fan!

I had a blast being a part of this show. Even though the show didn't lead to any sales or commissions, I'm so grateful to have that first real gallery experience under my belt, and looking forward to the next one!
