I was so happy to get this commission from a client who wanted a really BIG painting! At 5 feet wide, this one covers a huge swath of land in Washington State known as the Yakima Valley, and this painting covers over 100 miles from east to west.
I really wanted to represent the colors of the hills in more saturated hues, and accentuate the valley's twists and turns. Every detail presented a new challenge in what to make more pronounced, and what to simplify.
On such a large scale, I was able to use bigger brushstrokes, and simplify a lot more, which produces results that I think are ultimately more interesting.
Selfie to document the final stretch!
Putting in the last final touches, which are always the sides of the painting.
Around this time I also got to work with filmmaker Jonah Wafula-Card who is originally from Uganda. He reached out to me and ended up making the mini documentary that I have posted on my About page. It was so much fun to work together and he put in a ton of work getting the final result just right!
As always, I had this giant painting professionally scanned by Gango Custom Printing to make prints of Yakima Valley & Mt Adams.
